With all of the stress that comes with school, I have been feeling an intense need to develop my “happy place” here in Venezuela. Lately, my happy place has been on Pinterest, on Google maps, and in my Lonely Planet guidebooks—planning my trek around South America. My idea is to spend the summer of 2017 bumming around South America, hitting whatever highlights I’ve chosen. With only two months to complete this trek in (since in theory I’ll be teaching somewhere at that point) I’m obviously not going to be able to go to all of these dream destinations.
At this point, however, we’re still in the “dreaming” stage. I think that much of this is actually doable, with me putting myself on kind of an intense schedule and with a bunch of pre-planning. I’m not sure if that’s how I want to live my backpacker life, though. I’m thinking of strategically planning my vacations in order to maximize travel– such as spending my week-long March break on Easter Island and in Santiago, Chile rather than in Miami. All-in-all, I do think much of this is do-able. And even if it isn’t, I don’t care. Some of it is going to happen.
This is the new dream that I’m building for myself.
